Chris Blackman v. Omak School District
Chris Blackman worked as the Principal of Omak School District. During her employment with Omak School District she exercised her legal rights to oppose the District’s non-payment of overtime wages as well as the District’s misuse of ASB funds. Shortly after Ms. Blackman opposed Omak School District’s misdeeds the District’s Superintendent fired her. A copy of Ms. Blackman’s lawsuit is available here.
After filing suit Erik Swanson ask the that the Court dismiss him from the lawsuit. The Court denied the majority of Mr. Swanson’s motion and held, for the first time, that Washington’s wrongful discharge in violation of public policy tort allows for individual liability for employers. A copy of the Court’s order is available here.
Erik Swanson and Omak School District then moved to dismiss the entirety of Ms. Blackman’s lawsuit. Ms. Blackman’s response to that motion is available here.
